Arthurs first love
Having recenlty re-read Fort at The Rivers Bend, and remembering my youth and first love, I found it difficult to beleive that Arthur and Morgas, didn't find some time alone. I know if I was him, and this strikingly beautiful young woman was as enamoured with me as I was with her, we would have found a way.
I think we all would have.
What think you?

I agree. In fact Merlyn first becomes aware of their infactuation because Arthur "mysteriously disappeared" and when he reappears rebels against a task which will limit the time he has left to spend with Morgas before they all leave for various destinations.
Here's the spoiler for those of you still reading The Eagle. I found it strange that in The Eagle on a couple of occasions it was made to seem that they met only the once at the Fort when in fact they did have time together again at Camulod. That time would have been quite a few months later and had she been pregnant from their first encounter surely it would have been known. Yet the implcation in The Eagle was that she conceived Mordred while at the fort.
Any thoughts?

I agree, as well-there was more than ample time and opportunity for Morag and Arthur to have had any number of assignations when she was visiting Camulod, and plenty of places to have them. I'm wondering too, why it was implied in "The Eagle" that she became pregnant in her short time at the fort when it was much more logical that it happened at Camulod. Now that I think about it, her being at Camulod isn't even really mentioned, so maybe it was an editing error? I've never quite believed incest as the explanation of Mordred's birth in any of the stories about Arthur-I just don't think a mistake in identity could be that easily made. Perhaps the early writers of the tale had read "Oedipus Rex" a few times too many, but that is just my opinion.
Someone remind me (as I said in a different thread, it's been a while since I've read the earlier books), when does Morag visit Camulod? I assume it's somewhere in Sorcerer...

It is the Scorcerer. They return from Mediobogdum to Camulod. Merlyn goes on campaign to Cambria while Arthur joins Ambrose on a foray into Vortigern's territory. It's when Arthur returns from the northeast that Morag visits Camulod. I'm not sure of the time involved for all this, but surely all that traveling around would have taken months. Anyway, it states in the Eagle that Morag was pregnant when she left the fort and then apparently returned home as she confessed to her mother she was pregnant very early in her pregnancy.
I just wonder why Jack didn't date all this from her visit to Camulod rather than Mediobogdum.
It does seem odd, doesn't it? I read that part of "Sorcerer" again to see if there was indeed a better chance for Arthur and Morag to meet in secret during her Camulod visit, and sure enough, when Merlin returns from Cambria, the first thing he finds out is that Arthur is off on a hunting trip with Morag, Shelagh and others. Plenty of chances to go off into the bushes alone while hunting. Also, they are seen walking around with their arms about each other, so why wouldn't that be the clue that something is going on? Morag would have been several months pregnant on that visit to Camulod if she had conceived when she visited Mediobogdum and it would have been obvious to anyone. I really think it must be an editing error.
Well, in a series this many pages long, spanning these many years to write, I think we can forgive Jack a couple of inconsistencies ;) . Of course, he may stop by here at any time to set us all right.
